Module 05 · Workspaces
Computer view
Watch an assistant's computer on demand. Open the screen when you want to look, and see what the view shows where the screen is not ready yet.
On this page
The Computer view is a window onto an assistant's workspace. It has four tabs: Screen, Files, Terminal, and Tools. You open it when you want to watch, and close it when you do not. The assistant works either way.
Open it#
- The Computer page shows an assistant's workspace on its own.
- The Computer tab inside a chat shows the same view next to the conversation, opened on the Screen tab.
The four tabs#
| Tab | What it shows | Available today |
|---|---|---|
| Screen | The assistant's desktop, live | Coming soon in some places |
| Files | The assistant's working folder, with previews | Yes, see Files |
| Terminal | A live shell you can type in | Yes, see Terminal |
| Tools | What is installed, missing, or optional, and an Install more form | Yes |
The screen is on demand#
The screen is off until you ask for it. The first time you open it, StellarFirm adds a small desktop to the workspace, which takes a moment. After that it starts quickly whenever you open it. While the view is on screen it stays alive, and it stops with the workspace.
The screen exists so you can see what the assistant sees, for example while the Coder uses its browser.
When the screen is not available yet#
Some workspaces cannot show a desktop yet. When that is the case:
- The Screen tab says the screen is not available, and why.
- The note under the view reminds you that you still have files and a terminal.
- The Files and Terminal tabs work as usual, and so do the assistant's tools.
You lose nothing by this. Everything the assistant does is still visible through Files, the Terminal tab in a chat, and the activity log.
The state badge#
At the top of the view, a badge tells you the workspace's state.
| State | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Not started | The workspace has not been created yet. Press Start the computer. |
| Setting up | Tools are being installed. The first start can take a few minutes. |
| Ready | The workspace is up and the tools are in place. |
| Asleep | The workspace is saved and wakes when you open it or the assistant has work. |
| Setup stopped | Something failed during setup. Press Try setup again. |
If the workspace is asleep, Wake the computer brings it back with its files intact. See idle shutdown.
