If you already work in Cursor or VS Code, this integration lets the Coder meet you there. From the StellarFirm desktop app, the Coder can open a file in your editor and apply a change to a project on your own computer.

Which assistants use it#

AssistantStatus
CoderAvailable

The Coder is the only persona available today, and it is the one that works in your editor.

What assistants can do#

This one runs on your own computer, so it needs the desktop app. It does not work from the web or a phone.

AbilityHow it runs
Open a path in your editorRuns on its own
Apply a change to the project you choseRuns on its own (it edits your local files and sends nothing)
Run a headless Cursor sessionRuns on its own (Cursor only)

VS Code can open a path and apply a change. A headless session is a Cursor feature, so VS Code does not have it.

Publishing the result is a different step. Pushing a branch or opening a pull request still waits for your Approve, as your house rules require. See approvals.

Setup (when it opens)#

  1. Install the StellarFirm desktop app and sign in.
  2. Install your editor's command line tool, so that cursor or code works in a terminal on your computer.
  3. For headless Cursor sessions, also install Cursor's agent tool and have a Cursor token ready.
  4. Open Integrations in the desktop app and pick Cursor and VS Code.
  5. Choose which editor to use and which project folder the Coder may edit.
  6. Paste your Cursor token if you chose Cursor sessions, then press Connect.

Permissions#

  • The Coder only touches the project folder you choose. Pick the one project you want it to work on, not your whole home folder.
  • Changes land as ordinary edits in your files, so your editor's undo and your version control show exactly what happened.
  • Nothing is published without your Approve.

Good to know#

  • Keep your project under version control. Then every change from the Coder is easy to see, review, and undo.
  • This is different from the Coder's own private workspace, where it normally works on a copy of your code. Use the editor integration when you want changes to appear in the project already open on your machine.
  • Your computer must be on, with the desktop app running, for this to work.

Prompts to try#

PromptFix in my editor

Coder, fix the flaky upload in the project I have open and apply the change in my editor. Show me the diff in Jobs. Open a pull request only after I Approve.

PromptOpen the right file

Coder, find where [feature] is handled and open that file in my editor.

PromptSmall refactor

Coder, rename [old name] to [new name] across the project in my editor and show me the diff before anything is pushed.
