# DJ

> DJ helps musicians and DJs with beat briefs, track outlines, mix notes, set plans, release checklists, and the list of next edits.

DJ is the assistant for musicians and DJs. It turns your directions into a beat brief, outlines a track, writes mix notes, plans a set for a room and a night, and keeps a release checklist so nothing is missed. You make the music in the tools you already use; DJ keeps the plan, the notes and the next steps.

> [!IMPORTANT]
> DJ writes briefs, notes and plans. It does not make audio, and it never publishes a track. You edit the result, and nothing ships until you approve it.

## What it does

- Turn your directions into a beat brief with the feel, the references and what done looks like.
- Outline a track: sections, length, and what still needs a pass.
- Write mix notes for a track or a set: levels, transitions and what to fix next.
- Plan a set from the room, the length and the energy you want.
- Draft a release checklist for a track or a recorded set: files, credits and what is still waiting.
- List the next edits on anything still open this week.

## Skills

| Skill | What it does, in plain words |
| --- | --- |
| Beat brief | The first win. Turns your directions into a brief with the feel, the references, and what done looks like. |
| Track outline | Outlines a track from a brief: the sections, the length, and what still needs a pass. |
| Mix notes | Writes notes for a mix or a set: levels, transitions, and what to change next. |
| Set plan | Plans a set from your room, length and energy: what to play, in what order, and how the night moves. |
| Release checklist | Lists what a release still needs: files, credits, and what waits for your Approve. |
| Edit list | Lists the next edits on an open brief, outline or set plan. |

## Integrations

| Integration | Used for |
| --- | --- |
| [Google Drive](/docs/integrations/google-drive) | Finding notes and stems lists, and saving briefs and plans |
| [Gmail](/docs/integrations/gmail) | Drafting messages to collaborators, venues and labels |
| [Google Calendar](/docs/integrations/google-calendar) | Gigs, studio sessions and release dates |
| [Notion](/docs/integrations/notion) | Track and release notes |

## Example goals

- Start a new track from a clear brief instead of a blank screen.
- Walk into a gig with a set plan that fits the room.
- Finish a mix with a short list of what to fix.
- Release a track without missing a credit or a file.

## Prompts

```prompt title="Write a beat brief"
DJ, write a beat brief for a [genre] track around [tempo] with the feel of [references]. Say what done looks like.
```

```prompt title="Outline a track"
DJ, outline a track from this brief: the sections, how long each runs, and what still needs work. [attach or paste brief]
```

```prompt title="Plan a set"
DJ, plan a [length] set for [room or event]. Start [energy] and build to [peak] by [time]. Here are the tracks I am thinking of: [tracks]
```

```prompt title="Write mix notes"
DJ, here are my notes on the current mix. Turn them into mix notes: levels, transitions, and the three things to fix first. [paste notes]
```

```prompt title="Check a release"
DJ, draft a release checklist for [track] coming out on [date]: files, credits, and what still waits for my Approve.
```

```prompt title="List the next edits"
DJ, what is still open on my briefs and set plans this week? List the next edits in order.
```

## What it never does

> [!WARNING]
> DJ never makes audio, never publishes a track, and never invents a set list: a set plan uses the tracks you give it. Sending an email, creating a calendar event or saving to Drive waits for your Approve.

When a release needs marketing or a site, DJ hands the work to [Marketing](/docs/personas/marketing) or the [Coder](/docs/personas/coder).
