# Slack

> Talk to your assistants and approve work from Slack threads. Coming soon: connect Slack with two tokens from a ready-made app.

Status: Coming soon

Slack is a place to talk to your assistants without leaving the tool your team already uses. Mention an assistant in a channel or message it directly. It posts progress in the thread, and Approve and Reject buttons appear there when work needs you.

> [!SOON]
> Slack is Coming soon. Chat and Approvals work today inside the StellarFirm app at [stellarfirm.ai/app](https://stellarfirm.ai/app).

## At a glance

| | |
| --- | --- |
| Category | Chat |
| Status | Coming soon |
| Used by | Every assistant (the Coder is available now; others Coming soon) |

## What assistants can do

| Ability | How it runs |
| --- | --- |
| Receive your messages and mentions | Reads on its own |
| Reply and post progress in threads | Reads on its own |
| Ask you to Approve or Reject work | Reads on its own (it only asks; the decision stays with you) |

## Setup (when it opens)

1. Create a Slack app from the ready-made StellarFirm app description at stellarfirm.ai/slack-app-manifest.json (in Slack, choose **Create New App**, then **From a manifest**).
2. Create an app-level token with permission to connect, then install the app to your Slack workspace.
3. Copy the two tokens Slack gives you: the workspace token and the app-level token.
4. Open [Integrations](https://stellarfirm.ai/app/integrations) and pick **Slack**, paste both tokens, and press **Connect**.

## Permissions

The ready-made app description asks Slack for only what is needed. In plain words:

- **Read** messages where the app is mentioned, and direct messages sent to it.
- **Write** messages, so assistants can reply and post progress.
- **Use buttons** in messages, so you can Approve or Reject in the thread.
- **Connect** with the app-level token, so no public address is needed on your side.

## Good to know

- Slack does not change what needs your Approve. Anything that sends, deploys, charges, publishes, or creates still waits for you, or for what your [house rules](/docs/ceo/house-rules) allow.
- Your token stays with your StellarFirm workspace and is never shown back to you. The page shows only that it is connected.
- Start with a private channel for your assistants so your team sees only what you intend.
- Until Slack opens, do the same things in the StellarFirm chat and on the [Approvals page](https://stellarfirm.ai/app/approvals).

## Prompts

```prompt title="Ask in a thread"
Coder, pick up the top ticket and keep me posted in this thread. Wait for my Approve before you push anything.
```

```prompt title="Daily check-in"
Coder, post a short summary in this thread of what you finished today and what is waiting for me.
```

```prompt title="Route a request"
CEO, which assistant should handle [request]? Brief them and tell me in this thread when they start.
```
