# Porkbun

> Let your assistants check names, register domains, and point them at your site through Porkbun. Registering and DNS changes wait for your Approve. Coming soon.

Status: Coming soon

Porkbun is a domain registrar. Once you connect it, your assistants can check whether a name is free, list the domains you own, register a new one, and point a domain at your site. Registering a domain and every DNS change stop at your Approve.

> [!SOON]
> The Porkbun integration is Coming soon. This page describes how it will work. The integrations open at launch are GitHub, GitLab, and Bitbucket.

## Which assistants use it

| Assistant | Status | What it does with Porkbun |
| --- | --- | --- |
| [Product owner](/docs/personas/product-owner) | Coming soon | Checks names and registers a domain |
| [Coder](/docs/personas/coder) | Available | Points a domain at your site, and registers one when your company has no Product owner |

When your company has a Product owner, it is the one that registers domains. Changing DNS records and nameservers is always the Coder's job. Either one hands the other a request that belongs to it, so you can ask whichever you are talking to.

## What assistants can do

| Ability | How it runs |
| --- | --- |
| Check whether a name is free | Reads on its own |
| List the domains in your Porkbun account | Reads on its own |
| Register a domain | Always waits for your Approve |
| Set DNS records, such as pointing the domain at your site | Always waits for your Approve |
| Change the nameservers | Always waits for your Approve |

## Setup (when it opens)

1. In Porkbun, make sure your email address and phone number are verified. Porkbun asks for both before it lets anything register a domain for you.
2. Open **API Access** in your Porkbun account and create a new access key. Porkbun shows an access key and a secret. Copy both.
3. Turn on access for each domain you want the assistants to manage, or let Porkbun opt in all your domains.
4. Add funds to your Porkbun account. Porkbun takes what it charges for a registration from those funds.
5. Open [Integrations](https://stellarfirm.ai/app/integrations) in StellarFirm and pick Porkbun.
6. Paste the access key and the secret, and press Connect.
7. Save your company's registrant contact in [Settings, Auto-approve](https://stellarfirm.ai/app/settings/auto-approve). It is who the domain is registered to.

## Permissions

- Checking names and listing your domains happen on their own.
- Registering a domain always waits for your Approve. The request shows what Porkbun charges now and for each renewal year, and names the registrant contact that will be used. A name check only says whether a name is free. Nothing is registered until you approve.
- Setting DNS records or nameservers always waits for your Approve, and the request lists exactly what will change.
- None of these depend on your Auto-approve choices in Settings: there is no switch that skips the Approve. See [approvals](/docs/ceo/approvals).

## Good to know

- Just before it registers, the assistant asks Porkbun again. If the name was taken in the meantime, or Porkbun now charges more than you approved, nothing is registered and the assistant tells you why.
- To use other registrant details for one domain, reply with them before you approve. The assistant posts a new request with those details.
- Porkbun limits how much can be registered through access keys each month. You can change that limit in your Porkbun account.
- Porkbun does not register every ending. If a name cannot be registered with Porkbun, the assistant says so.
- The access key and secret are saved in your StellarFirm workspace and never shown again. To cut access, delete the key in Porkbun.

## Prompts to try

```prompt title="Check a few names"
Product owner, check whether [name].com, [name].io, and [name].app are free with Porkbun. Do not register anything.
```

```prompt title="Register a domain"
Product owner, register [name].com with Porkbun for one year. Show me what it charges and the registrant contact before I approve.
```

```prompt title="Point the domain at the site"
Coder, point [name].com at our site. Show me the DNS records you will set before I approve.
```
